SeedSpark transformed a time consuming and labor intensive scheduling process into a custom web and mobile application solution that was easily adopted by the team and led to improved communication between workers on the field, contractors and leadership, resulting in a significant increase in resource utilization.
Increase in Resource Utilization
Decrease in Scheduling Time
Charlotte Paint Company has built a reputation as the industry leading painting contractor in the Carolinas for over 40 years. Because of their professionalism, quality painting, and specialty coating services, they have worked on projects ranging from the Carolina Panther’s stadium to many of the notable, high-rise hotels along the Carolina coast and surrounding areas.
In early 2012, SeedSpark was asked to review and assist in developing strategies focused on driving efficiency in Charlotte Paint’s scheduling process. The level of importance that Charlotte Paint placed on getting the job done correctly, on time, and within budget was immediately apparent. Schedulers started each day at 4:30 am by reviewing the previous day’s production. After review, they structured the upcoming day’s work with magnetic whiteboards and labels. While the process was almost a work of art, it was also time-consuming and labor intensive.
A Custom Solution for Increased Efficiency
SeedSpark began the project with a healthy discovery phase, investing time with each key stakeholder and documenting the current processes in order to develop a solution through a custom web application. By learning the intricacies of the previous system, SeedSpark was able to develop an application that was easily adopted and implemented.
While the look and operation of the new application are similar in many ways to the old process, automation greatly reduces the time required to communicate the schedule to team members in the field, sub-contractors, and leadership. With data surrounding resource capacity at each scheduler’s fingertips, Charlotte Paint reports that resource utilization has increased by over 20%. They also realized a 50% reduction in the time required to complete the scheduling process. The application project was completed within 6 months, from discovery to roll out, and was just the beginning of Charlotte Paint’s digital transformation.
The Digital Transformation Continuum
Since the initial project, SeedSpark and Charlotte Paint Company’s partnership in technology integration has grown by leveraging the right amount of technology and business process improvement to areas such as automated purchase orders and invoice verification, mobile time and attendance capturing and estimating and project tracking.
Recently, SeedSpark was chosen to handle all of Charlotte Paint’s managed services for their offices in North and South Carolina to provide onsite support and a more proactive approach to Cybersecurity, Cloud Enablement, and Business Continuity.
As with all Digital Transformation partnerships, it’s a journey. We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with Charlotte Paint to continue building on their best-in-class reputation.
